It was a magical scene. Thousands of fans lined the sprint course at the Canmore Nordic Centre on Feb. 6 cheering wildly for their hometown girl. And Sara Renner didn’t disappoint.
Renner, in her final pre-Olympic tuneup and her last World Cup race ever, sent her fans into a frenzy by winning a gutsy bronze medal in the 1.4 km classic sprint final.
“It was amazing to have so many people cheering for me, and I know all of these people,” beamed Renner, reflecting on an incredible weekend of cross-country ski racing. “It was just wonderful. I could just float on this wave of enthusiasm and hope.”
