Our six finalists!
Through the All-Albertan Song Contest, we set out to find an iconic new song (or three) that would stand with the best-loved Alberta-themed tracks from Wild Rose Country’s best-known songwriters (your Tysons, your Lunds).
We think we’ve done it.
From nearly 200 entries – spanning hip-hip, power-pop, jazz, blues, country, waltzes (yes, waltzes) and dozens upon dozens of heartfelt traditional folk songs – comes six outstanding short-listed finalists for the contest.
Our artists are Colleen Brown, Dragon Fli Empire, Eamon McGrath, Tom Phillips, Danny Vacon and Jinting Zhao.
Judges from the contest’s partners – ATB Financial, CKUA and Alberta Music – will choose three prize-winning songs based partly on your input, so listen to the tracks below and vote on your favourite.
Voting Details
Voting ends Monday, November 8th at noon. (The winning song isn’t necessarily the one that attracts the most votes, but public voting will influence the judges’ final decisions.)
The winning song gets $10,000 from ATB Financial, $2,000 from Alberta Music toward a radio-ready recording of the track, and inclusion on their 2012 sampler. The first-place winner will be revealed at the final Untapped Alberta 2010 concert Nov. 13th at Edmonton’s Starlite Room.
Second place gets $3,000 from ATB, and third place gets $2,000.
