At ATB Financial, it’s part of our mission to share Alberta’s stories. We want to make sure that these stories continue to be told and that new stories spring up. That’s why ATB proudly supports the Writers Guild of Alberta’s inkPulse day camps. inkPulse camps offer young Alberta writers, aged 12-18, the chance to learn from talented instructors and guest speakers and connect with their peers. The camps provide inspiration for the young writers to explore their imagination and bring out their creativity.
As part of our support of inkPulse, ATB sponsored the Young Writers Contest inspired by Valour Place, a home for military family support, currently under construction in Edmonton.
The young writers were invited to write an essay, short story or poem to show their appreciation of the efforts of Canada’s military. With Remembrance Day approaching, we asked the writers to think about what the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers mean to them, why it’s important to recognize the efforts of our solders and how they would thank them if given the chance.
Three winners were chosen based on style, creativity and content. Congratulations to Rachael Rode (Look Back, Go Beyond) from Grande Prairie, Janell Asling (Poppies) from Lethbridge and Zoe Worobetz (Henry’s story) from Fairview. Each winner received a $200 gift card from Staples.
