ATB and the AGA

ATB’s corporate offices in Edmonton afforded us a dramatic view of the construction of the Art Gallery of Alberta’s new $90-million home. As we watched from just two blocks away the installation of the soaring silver sculpture – the centerpiece of acclaimed architect Randall Stout’s design – we knew we had to get involved.

“The AGA promises to be our province’s most significant cultural story of the new decade,” said Peggy Garritty, ATB’s Senior Vice-President of Communications and Corporate Responsibility. “It’s like having a stylish and creative and beautiful new friend. How could we resist?”

In January 2010, just days before the Gallery threw open its doors to the public, the two proudly Alberta institutions struck a five-year partnership. It begins with this summer’s 7th Annual Alberta Biennial of Contemporary Art, and continues with next year’s Alberta Early Masters Series, and this fall’s ATB Young Alberta Artists Competition.

Garritty said the AGA partnership fits perfectly with ATB’s emphasis on celebrating Alberta’s stories. The institutions will team up to celebrate Alberta art in all corners of the province, not just in the landmark new building, she said.
