Edmonton Oil Kings

The ATB Financial Oil Kings Hockey Clinic has quickly become a highlight of the Edmonton hockey calendar. On October 31, 2010, the third annual clinic at West Edmonton Mall's Ice Palace attracted over 250 Novice and Atom (ages 7-10) players from across Northern Alberta, selling out in only four minutes!

Participants were treated to a fun 45-minute on-ice practice session with Oil Kings players, an Oil Kings practice jersey, and tickets to an upcoming Oil Kings game at Rexall Place.

Judging by all the smiling faces, there is little doubt the Oil Kings made quite an impression on their young fans, and vice versa.

Kayly's story

Hi, I'm Kayly McNamara. I'm seven years old and I live in Boyle, Alberta. I've been playing hockey for three years. This year I'm playing Novice with the Boyle Blazers. I was so excited to get on the ice and skate with the Oil Kings!

This is my big brother Kane. He's eight and he's already been playing hockey for five years. We play on the same team. He tucks in his hockey jersey just like Wayne Gretzky.

Once we put on our hockey gear we got to meet the Oil Kings players in our group, Keegan Lowe, T.J. Foster and Klarc Wilson.

When I got on the ice I saw my Mom and Dad cheering me on! There were lots of people watching us play.

We started off doing some drills with the Oil Kings. First we got to skate in on goal and take a shot. Kane did a really good job on this one.

It was fun to be in the same clinic as Kane.

One drill had us stickhandling rubber chickens! Kane didn't think it was too hard.

Those Oil Kings players sure are big! And fast!

At the end of the clinic we played tug-o-war with the Oil Kings. We pulled really hard.

The Oil Kings are super strong, but we won!

After the clinic, Kane and I got autographs from the Oil Kings. They signed our jerseys, sticks and hockey cards. It was really cool to meet them!

What a great day at West Edmonton Mall. We'll never forget it!
