I figure it's all about the squirrels.

In Calgary, a population of Eastern Grey Squirrels introduced from Eastern Canada reminds us we're not in Edmonton anymore. Big, meaty grey or black squirrels, the same you see in Toronto if you visit there. In Edmonton, though, you get the smaller, cuter native Red squirrels, plus the even cuter, smaller flying squirrels.

The cities are far enough apart that Edmonton has never had an invasion of the big Grey squirrels, even though they've basically taken over Calgary parks. When people laugh about our cities' rivalry, think about the squirrels. It's pretty fricking serious.

Then there are Edmonton’s mutant, inbred grey magpies.

I figure it's all about the mutant, inbred grey magpies.
