Two ATBers tell their story.
Bob McGee knows a thing or two about pools of liquidity, so what he did at the University of Alberta campus recently didn’t completely put him out of his depth.
There McGee stood in the campus quad, in his very dry swim trunks, motionless. And then, with resolve, in those very dry swim trunks, he bounded up two steps...
and, in front of scores of onlookers, launched himself into the blue Alberta sky...
before coming down precisely one second later, with a big splash.
Into a pool of water that reflected the university community’s commitment to the United Way.
“It was only about one degree outside, so, I figured that the water couldn’t possibly be as cold as the air,” said McGee, ATB Financial’s Chief Financial Officer.
“The moment I hit the water I knew I’d been quite mistaken. It was freezing cold!”
McGee was among the divers to take the plunge in the JDC West Chillin’ for Charity fundraising event on Wednesday, November, 4, 2015. The event was sponsored by ATB Financial and put on by the Alberta School of Business.
Other plungers included business school dean Joseph Doucet, United Way representatives, and a number of U of A students.
ATB’s Nic Guindon was poolside and filed this report:
The goal was to raise $20,000 for the United Way.
Warm thanks to all the organizers, warm towels and hot chocolate for the divers!
