It was easily the most significant event that took place in Alberta in 2016.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Empower U program, a financial literacy and matched savings program for women of diverse backgrounds who are experiencing low income and poverty. Women build financial knowledge and skills, and ATB Financial matches their monthly savings contribution.
Since it began, over 1,000 women have graduated from Empower U.
“We are humbled to be part of this incredible program. It has been such a rewarding experience to see these women achieve their goals. Things that some of us take for granted can go a long way to achieving independence—like first month's rent for an apartment, or a pair of glasses,” says Sandra Huculak, Managing Director of ATB’s Corporate Social Responsibility.
Ninety per cent of participants report an increase in self-esteem and 93% report an increase in self confidence after taking the program.
